How to Deal with Stress: Tips From A Meditation Expert

As a meditator of 20+ years, how do I address the stress from entities outside me?

I see two paths I can take when I feel out of control of my life:

  1. I can react to the feeling inside of me and isolate

or

  1. I can accept the feeling, take an interest in it, stay connected to my life, and keep on moving forward.

If I take the first path and react to it.

All I do is waste a heap of mental energy on overthinking and fear of the unknown. I end up getting frustrated or angry and consequently feel isolated from the external world and people around me. Amplifying and feeding the out-of-control feeling inside me leads to an unending cycle of escalation and distress. I continually question and complain internally about getting my hair done and whether the whole virus situation is a scam.

But if I take the second path, accept the external situation and the decisions that are out of my control.

I can stay focused and sharp. I can also stay connected with the distress inside me and work to resolve it each day. By embracing my emotions without externalizing them, I maintain a connection with others and the world. And because the out-of-control feeling isn’t getting fuelled, it comes to its natural end.

Choosing this alternative path is the initial step towards owning my emotions and fully preventing harm to myself and others.

To counter feeling out of control, stop overthinking and focus on managing what’s within your control.

Anything that is external to you is pretty much out of your control anyway. Take the time to work out what is in your control. Understanding your feelings is key; it’s your decision whether to react to what’s inside you or not. Get back into your body and start to feel how you feel physically on the inside. Recognize that you’re not out of control, your thoughts are.

The quicker you can adapt inside, the faster you can get back to thriving. Natural meditation clarifies reality so you can navigate life more easily.
